Patrick Singleton

-Bermudian elite athlete and skeleton competitor Patrick Singleton was educated at Saltus Grammar School, Bermuda where he obtained the Duke of Edinburgh bronze, silver and gold awards in addition to a Bermuda Bravery Award.

-At seventeen he attended Rannoch School, in the Highlands of Scotland. He was remembered for climbing mountains barefoot on the mountain rescue teams, wearing Bermuda shorts under his school kilt and aquiring a love of wintersports in the mountains.

-He graduated with a BA degree in Journalism and Communications from Elon University in North Carolina. After graduation he qualified in the sport of Luge for the 1998 Olympics in Nagano, Japan. IBM used Patrick’s story for an award-winning Olympic commercial seen by over a billion people.

-While at the Olympics in Japan, Patrick was recruited to work as a sports journalist for the largest newpaper in the world, the Yomiuri Shimbum in Tokyo. Later Patrick joined Bloomberg Television where he has worked as a financial reporter and producer in both Tokyo and London.

-In 2002 Patrick qualified and participated in the Salt Lake Winter Olympic in men's Luge. During official Olympic training he recorded the fastest down time during one qualifying heat. Shortly after the games, legendary Japanese skeleton athlete Kasuhiro Koshi convinced Patrick to switch from Luge to the sister sport of Skeleton. It was great advice and Patrick was able to qualify for the FIBT Skeleton World Championships in only his first season.

-The 2004-2005 was a break out year for Patrick. He won two races, his first in either skeleton or luge. He also placed fourth three times, raced at the 2005 FIBT World Championships and was recently awarded 'The 2005 Bermuda Gold Award for Athlete of the Year.'

-Patrick is currently training along side the British Winter Olympic Skeleton Team in the UK. His present goal is to compete in the 2006 Winter Olympic Games in Torino, Italy.
